Research

 

The College has Research committee constituted by the Governing body. The members of the Committee motivate faculty members to undertake research projects as well as help the faculties in improvement of research projects. The College every year organizes workshops, conferences, popular lectures etc. The college has a budget allocation for research in every yearwise and provides the fund for registration fees to attain seminar, purchase of chemicals, sample analysis and felicitation to the faculties for their contribution to research. Teachers are encouraged to pursue the Ph.D. degrees and to publish their research papers in national and international journals. Except Departmental research facilities, the College also have a Central Research Laboratory and Instrumentation Centre,  known as P C Roy Central Research Laboratory.  Some of the highlights of the research culture in the college during last five years are summarized below:

·         A total of 10 Minor and 1 Major Research project funded by University Grant Commission have been received.

·         A total of 21 Conferences/workshops/seminars have been organized.

·         Two research scholars have awarded their doctoral degrees and 11 faculties have been recognized as Research Guide.

·         The College has regularly published two research journals with ISSN number.

 

o   Wesleyan Journal of Research, a UGC approved, multi-disciplinary peer-reviewed (ISSN: 0975-1386) journal, being published since 2008.

o   Appropriations, a UGC approved, peer-reviewed ISSN (0975-1521) journal, published by the Department of English (since 2005).

The journals are published once in a year. The journals have online submission policy, ethical guidelines and plagiarism checking software. Both the journals do not levy any publication or processing charges. Except these, college also publishes an ecological news letter “Ecofocus”.

·         A total of 110 papers were published in UGC approved journals and 89 book chapters/books have been published. Eighty three papers were also published in journals not approved by UGC.

·         Seven faculty members have received state/national or international level awards and a number of teachers are working as the Editorial Board member of many National/International Journals. Many faculty members also act as subject expert in different selection board.

·         One of the faculty members has filed one national patents (DST) in collaboration with the University of Burdwan (T.I. (56)/TIFA/2014]

·         Seventeen popular lectures were also arranged by different departments with reputed resource persons.

·         Every year our students get selected at University and state level exhibition of their projects.

·         College has also hosted the Science Fair and 1st Regional Science and Technology Congress-2016 in collaboration with Department of Science and Technology.

·         Some major research instruments like UV-VIS spectrophotomer, IR-Spectrophotometer were also purchased from UGC, CPE-BSR or college contribution.

·         The Mitchell Sky Observatory under the supervision of the department of Physics is being extensively used for observations and experimentations.

·         The Automatic Weather Station of the department of Geography provides important weather-related information to the college as well as to the community at large and the data collected thus are used for researches of varied nature.

·         Edited volumes were published from the Dept. of Geography and Economics. Seminar proceedings were also published regularly by the college
