Department of Economics

In 1903, the subject known as "Political Economy" was introduced in the college as one of the subjects for the undergraduate courses prescribed by the Calcutta University. In the year 1961-62, Honours Course in Economics and Political Science was started. From 1960 onwards, Burdwan University began to take Economics and Political Science as two separate subjects at the undergraduate (both pass and hons.) level.

From 1981 onwards, both B.A. and B.Sc. degrees are being awarded by the University according to the subject combinations of the students. From the Academic Year 2017-18 the college is affiliated with Bankura University. In addition to Honours, Economics as a General Elective and Program subject is also provided. Eminent teachers served this department from time to time. Many renowned personalities were established in various spheres of activity after graduating from this department. Presently the department has 04 full time teachers. The academic condition in terms of quality of faculty and learning transfer process is healthy and adequate. All the teachers of the department are sincerely engaged in scholarly pursuits.

The department's teaching methods are up-to-date, so it can make it easy for students to stay engaged and learn effectively.

The department doesn't have strong connections with industry, it can make it difficult for students to find internships and jobs.
