On the 29th day
of June, 1903 the Wesleyan Mission College was established in
Bankura bringing in its wake a new era of emancipation. Bankura
Christian College was established under the aegis of the founder
Principal Rev. J. Mitchell. In 1907 the first college in the
district of Bankura was granted approval by the Calcutta University
to teach Intermediate Arts (I.A.) and Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)
curriculam. In 1911-12 Intermediate Science (I.Sc.) was introduced
while the Honours curriculum was introduced in 1921-22 in the
subjects of Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. From its inception
the college performed brilliantly and soon became one of the
pioneers in imparting education in and around the district. It
opened its gates to the students coming from the adjacent districts
like Midnapore, Burdwan, Purulia, and Bhirbum as also the states of
Bihar and the present day Jharkand. |
